Dr. Marsha Howerton
Born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma, I am an Okie Cherokee girl to the core. Early on, I discovered my interest in science and still remember my first encounter at a young age with a female Ob-Gyn physician who cared for my mother in our small town. This encounter opened my eyes, mind, and heart as a young girl drawing me towards my future profession that at the time was a truly male dominated field. Looking back, I can’t under emphasis how this encounter shaped me as an individual, but also how a provider’s interaction with their patient should be personal, and the impact this has on their healthcare experience. Sharing their life and having them an extension of my own family enables me to better understand and help them attain their healthcare goals. From this time forward, my interest in medicine consistently grew and I decided to test the waters as an aide for a nursing home while I was in high school. Let’s just say after this, I was hooked on caring for people.
During this period at OU, I met my husband Eric, who is also a physician, and we began growing our family during my Ob-Gyn residency. Today, we have three wonderful children, Kyle, Warren, and Elise. You can easily find us cheering on OU from the stands at every home football game. Don’t worry, I love my OSU Cowboy patients too. Early in my medical career, I knew I wanted my own practice to tailor my care around my patients in providing my own personal approach to medicine. My passion for medicine keeps me on the cutting edge of the latest medical developments, and my decades of experience provides me with a sure steady approach to your healthcare needs. Thirty years later, I relish in looking back at the life experiences I have shared with my patients and their families, and look forward to the new experiences to come!
